Lai Mohammed, Gov Abdulrazaq Draw Battle Line In Kwara

After the near bloody clash with an unusually united Saraki family clan, Governor Abdulrhaman Abdlurazaq of Kwara State could be set for his next political battle with the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The imminent battle follows alleged moves to reconstitute the executive of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the state.

The chairman of the APC state executive committee, Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa who has since the advent of the Abdulrazaq administration lived under continued threats following his loyalty to Lai Mohammed, on Sunday finally threw down the gauntlet.

In a terse statement the party chairman warned anyone he said was aiming to distabilise the party through the dissolution of the state executive to rethink his actions.

Bolarinwa, a steadfast loyalist of Lai Mohammed it is alleged, is facing the threats because of his allegiance to the minister who as party leader led the O`to`ge revolution that decapitated the Bukola Saraki hegemony over Kwara.

It would be recalled that following a reception for Lai Mohammed on his reappointment as minister in Abuja that was also attended by the governor that Bolarinwa came under pressure after referring to the minister as the leader of the party.

A group believed to be loyal to the governor had issued an ultimatum to the chairman to apologise for daring to refer to Lai as the leader of the party even in the presence of the governor.

Sources in Ilorin told GreenWhiteGreen that the camp of the governor has been trying to woo some elements of the Bolarinwa executive with the intention of distabilising the executive whose term is not due until 2022.

The moves culminated to heavy speculations in Kwara at the weekend of the imminent dissolution of the executive which remains firmly in the grip of Lai Mohammed.

Responding to the development in a tersely worded statement made available to GreenWhiteGreen, Bolarinwa described “as an impostor and agent of  destruction anyone tinkering  with the list or engaging in the composition of party executive members in the state  APC.”

He said that nobody is empowered at any level to tinker with the list or compose any new party executives of APC as of moment as there was no need for such.

“Party members are advised to disregard any call from any quarters for the composition of new set of party executives.

“Hon. Bolarinwa as the State Chairman, reaffirms that all executive members of the Party at all levels, ward, local and state remain sacrosanct and undisputable.”

“I, therefore, call on those who are on the mission to destabilise the party to have a rethink, retrace their steps and succumb to party rules in accordance with our constitution which remains supreme in running the party.

“I remain, for the purpose of emphasis, the only source for the authentication of exco members of Kwara APC.”
