Apparently a move to avoid the spread of coronavirus, Ebonyi State Government has directed the immediate profiling of all Chinese nationals in the state.

Governor David Umahi issued the directive during a meeting with community leaders on the need to avert the possible spread of the virus to the state from Chinese nationals.

Umahi ordered that anyone returning from China to the state should be subjected to medical examination, and will not work until after two weeks of his arrival, adding that traditional rulers and stakeholders should record the profile of any Chinese nationals in their environment.

He called for sensitization exercise on the virus and lassa fever in the 140 autonomous communities of the State three times in the month of February and March.

In his words, “That LGAs Chairmen, DC Coordinators, Traditional Rulers, Councilors and Town Union Presidents are to profile and provide a comprehensive data of all the Chinese people residing in their locality to Ebonyi State Government on or before Wednesday as the State Government will meet with all Chinese nationals in the State on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

“The Ministry of Health, Ministry of Grants and Donor Agencies should immediately liaise with the health officers at the Local Government Areas and Development Centres to increase the awareness on Lassa Fever.”
