The first two cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Kogi State on Wednesday making the state the 35th state in the country to record the novel coronavirus.

The two cases in Kogi State were among an unprecedented 389 new cases recorded in the country.

The spike in cases came as Lagos, the hotbed of the disease in the country also recorded an unprecedented 256 cases on Wednesday.

Officials of the NCDC who came to the state were at one time threatened with quarantine by Governor Yahaya Bello but, however, fled from the state.

The 389 cases in the country brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 8,733 out of which 2,501 have been successfully treated and discharged. The country has also recorded 254 deaths.

The spike in new cases in Lagos was causing anxiety especially in social media as people took to their handles to express concern on the development.
