The Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN has launched an offensive against sexual harassment in Nollywood with the constitution of a Sexual Offences Committee to probe past, present and prospective allegations of harassment by directors on artistes.

The resolution GWG gathered, was at a meeting of the Directors Guild where the issue of sexual harassment leveled against directors was extensively discussed.

The resolution was against the background of the allegation made by Sylvia Oluchy against veteran producer and director, Lancelot Imasuen.

Ms Oluchy had recently alleged that she was harassed by Imasuen during the filming of Bent Arrows in Abuja. Mr. Imasuen’s wife has strongly rebuffed the claim saying she was on stage during the filming.

Following upon the resolution by the Directors Guild, it was also resolved to set up dedicated channels for artistes to make their complaints.

A memo issued by the National Secretary of DGN, Uche Agbo, said that complaints would be received in confidence. A committee to address the complaints has also been set up.

Members of the committee include,  Pat Oghre (Chairman), Remix Ibinola (Secretary) , Tope Oshin, Francis Onwochei and Tony Akposheri.

“DGN uses this opportunity to vehemently condemn rape in its entirety  within and outside of the Film Industry. It is a derogatory and criminal act and no one deserves to be raped, regardless of the circumstances,” the memo said.

It directed artistes to channel their complaints of sexual harassment in the industry through speakout@dgn.org.ng or speakouttodgn@gmail.com.
