CAF Shifts 2021 AFCON To 2022

The Confederation of African Football, CAF has postponed the 2021 African Cup of Nations to 2022, due to the COVID-19 disruptions on football activities around the world.

The CAF Executive Committee which met via zoom conferencing on Tuesday, in series of decisions agreed to move the remaining AFCON qualification matches to next year.

CAF’s decision was sequel to the decisions taken by UEFA and CONMEBOL to move the 2020 European Championship and Copa America to 2021, respectively, in the wake of the COVID-19 disruption that has led to the postponement of many football activities.

It was also agreed that the next edition of the CHAN tournament for players in domestic league be scheduled for 2021.

The CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup semi-final fixtures would now be played as a one-legged match, as was also resolved for the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League.

The 2020 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) was totally cancelled and the Women’s Champions League is billed to resume in 2021.
