President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to name some of the railway stations in the about to be completed railway modernization scheme after some of Nigeria’s foremost legends has raised a twitter storm after one prominent legend was excluded.

President Olusegun Obasanjo who received the Biafran surrender and served as military head of state before serving a two term stint as civilian president was not named among those honoured by the president on Monday.

Among those honoured were Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Senator Olusola Saraki among others.

The exclusion of Obasanjo was particularly controversial in the opinion of many Nigerians. Some, however, felt it was nothing unusual. Among those in this group was Bashir Ahmed, President Buhari’s personal assistant on new media, who said that the former president has many monuments to his name including a road named after him in Kano.

He said:

Another twitter user supporting him in a different perspective said that Obasanjo has one of the best roads in Ghana named after him, projecting him as an African legend.
