Nigerians have raised serious concern over the report of the United States that deadly terrorist groups, Al-Qaeda and ISIS are expanding their operations to the north-western and southern parts of the country.

Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the US special operations command, Africa, on Wednesday, said US will continue to provide Nigeria with intelligence on the activities of terrorist groups.

Anderson said, “We have engaged with Nigeria and continue to engage with them in intel sharing and in understanding what these violent extremists are doing.

“And that has been absolutely critical to their engagements up in the Borno state and into an emerging area of northwest Nigeria that we’re seeing al-Qaeda starting to make some inroads in.

“So, this intelligence sharing is absolutely vital and we stay fully engaged with the government of Nigeria to provide them with an understanding of what these terrorists are doing, what Boko Haram is doing, what ISIS-West Africa is doing, and how ISIS and al-Qaeda are looking to expand further south into the littoral areas.

The report has created palpable fear in the minds of many Nigerians, who argued that the rate of terrorism in the country has heightened, as the country is still battling the Boko Haram sect.

In the past five years, Boko Haram has caused massive destruction in the north-eastern part of the country.

As the country is still battling Boko Haram, the report that ISIS and Al-Qaeda are making inroads to the country has weakened the minds of many Nigerians who have taken to the microblogging platform to vent their opinions.

Some Nigerians have criticized President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for addressing the security situation of the country with kid gloves.
