BBC Apologises Over Wrong Portrayal Of Adesina
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
BBC Africa has apologized over the use of “flamboyant” to describe Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of African Development Bank, AfDB, by the news medium. BBC Africa said it was an error and absolutely unintentionally to have referred to Adesina as flamboyant.
BBC Africa, in a news story, on Thursday, used “flamboyant” in describing Adesina.
The development was trailed with condemnations from many Nigerians who argued that the medium portrayed Adesina in a negative angle.
The medium also said it has corrected the use of chairman as the title of Adesina as the AfDB president.
BBC tweeted: “We have removed the description of Dr Akinwumi Adesina as “flamboyant”. We recognise this – absolutely unintentionally – may have caused offence, and is irrelevant to the story. We have also corrected his title to African Development Bank president.”
Adesina, who is well known for his suit and bow tie dressing was elected as the ADfB President for the second time earlier this week.
