The chairman of Patani Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Perez Omoun is to spend the Christmas and Boxing holidays in prison after he was charged for allegedly attacking the state’s commissioner for energy, Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana.

The Asaba Magistrate Court presided over by V.O. Okonta which gave the order after the prosecutor, Mr. F. O. Itua asked for him to be so remanded upon the claim that the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.

Omoun who according to sources was a former aide of Ganagana’s when the later was Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly had fallen out with him.

Ganagana had reportedly backed away from supporting him in the forthcoming local government elections due in March and had reportedly asked the embattled local government chairman not to go for a second term.

In the charge, Omoun is accused of causing malicious damage to eight vehicles belonging to Ganagana, family members and the ministry of energy.

The value of the property destroyed was put at N199.9 million. Also allegedly destroyed is the commissioner’s gate which Omoun is alleged to have hit with his Lexus 570 SUV.

Following the submissions of the prosecution that the court lacked the jurisdiction to handle the case, the court adjourned the case to December 30, 2020 which in effect means that the local government chairman will spend the Christmas festivities in Ogwashi-Uku prison.
