Agbamuche Alleges Death Threats After Defection From Delta PDP
A former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Nelson Agbamuche, has accused some members of the party in the state of threatening his life following his defection from their party to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He said the threats were compounded by his inclination during the recent Local government election in the state.
Agbamuche, who is the Odoziani of Akwukwu-Igbo in a statement on Thursday said the PDP members had vowed to make life unconducive for him following his political inclination.
Noting that the PDP brought no benefit to him and his community, Agbamuche in the statement said:
“There have been series of attacks on my properties and plots to eliminate me, leading to some unfortunate attacks on my supporters. The reason for the acrimony is because I choose to identify with a progressive party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) which has brought and still bringing development to my community.
“I thought it wise to join the APC having spent years in the PDP without any noticeable benefit to my people, but my former party chieftains won’t recognise my fundamental human rights of freedom o association guaranteed in our constitution and the African charter”, he stated.
Observing that the PDP chiefs had recently been employing thugs and vigilante to harass him, he said he would not bow to their desires as according to him his political liberty was guaranteed under the nation’s laws and the African Charter of Huan Rights.
The APC chieftain said that he had in that direction drawn the attention of security agencies to the developments allegedly by the PDP agents.
He said, “I have already petitioned the Inspector General of Police on this matter, having lodged formal complaints at the state level with no visible action taken”.
