The Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP’s bid to reclaim Anambra State could be endangered by some activities which some stakeholders claim as landmines. The PDP group has expressed fears that the timing of activities for the primary could be suspicious.

The stakeholders who identified themselves as Independent Leaders Forum (ILF), are particularly worried about the timeline between the publication of the names of the accredited delegates for the primary election and the election itself.

According to the timetable for the Anambra election obtained by  GreenWhiteGreen GWG, the PDP is scheduled to conduct the three man delegates election on June 11, 2021 but the list of delegates will not be published until June 25 which is just a day to the governorship primary scheduled for June 26.

The group in a statement expressed fears that the timing for the publication of the delegates list was too close to the Anambra PDP primary and could lead to hanky-panky.

In the statement signed by the Secretary, Frank Molokwu, the group demanded that the delegates’ list should be published at least one week to the primary to in their words allow the aspirants enough time to canvass for support among the deelgates.
The group also questioned the 35 day period between the screening of the aspirants and the submission of the screening report.

“We appeal to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, ably led by Uche Secondus, to review these anomalies proposed in the election timetable of the party for Anambra governorship election on November 6, 2021 to bestow confidence on the aspirants and Anambra State in general.

“Finally, we restate that the ILF will stop at nothing to counter and resist the usual trends and actions that robbed PDP of victory in previous governorship elections in Anambra State,” they said.
