The Correctness Of Kneeling In Prayer
For this cause I BOW my KNEES unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 3:14
Paul had explored the mystery of Christ from Ephesians 3:1-13. It was a mystery that was hidden from the many Greats Of All Time in the Old Testament including Moses, the man who saw God face to face.
That mystery was made to us in the face of Christ who we now can approach individually.
Now, Paul exhorts the Ephesians on the manner of approaching God and His Christ.
He approached, bowing the knees. He knelt in prayer.
Many, many examples of people kneeling in prayer are shown in the bible. Solomon in dedicating the temple, 1 Kings 8:54; Jesus at the time of His agony to birth His Church, Luke 22:41; Stephen, the first martyr of the church, Acts 7:60.
There are also many examples of people approaching God in prayer in various other positions even lazying on the bed. Psalm 63:6
Now, what does this tell us?
Kneeling in the physical shows a restraint. That while u have come to God and to no one else.
But if you kneel in prayer and your thoughts go here and there from Lagos to London to Los Angeles, the purpose is defeated.
Some while praying would answer phone calls, and busy themselves in one engagement or the other in crass disrespect of God. They are conscious of all movements around them and respond to such while praying!
Kneeling shows a surrender and submission to God.
Many are arrogant in their coming to God and do things they would not do in the presence of their physical bosses.
It is inappropriate to put your hand in your pocket and come to God as u wouldn’t do that before your parents or boss.
In introducing this touching prayer of dedication of the Church in Ephesus, Paul bows his knees, saying I have come to you and none else.
Even more, we must take the spiritual poise, we must first kneel in our hearts.
Beloved, may God favour you today as you approach Him, kneeling in your heart above all else!
Good Day
