The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Anambra State, Prince Emeka Udodeme, has said that those condemning Governor Willie Obiano for poor performance were only using what he described as the governor’s good performance to play politics.

Udodeme in an interview said that to the contrary, that the governor has tried beyond measures in his seven years in office.

Addressing the mutterings from some over alleged poor performance, Udodeme averred: “I am in a position to tell you the truth because I don’t play politics any more. You know this is politics. Other politicians in other political parties will try to discredit the governor to favour their parties.

“Imagine people who are now enjoying security in Anambra State still saying that the governor is doing nothing. Even in festive season you find out that everybody is coming home because of the security we now enjoy as against what obtained in the past.”

Obiano marked his seven years in office as Anambra governor on Wednesday.

Describing Obiano’s performance in the last seven years as quite remarkable and impressive, Prince Udodeme scored him 98% and insisted that those attributing failure to the governor were doing so for political reasons.

“It is against my principle to score somebody who is still writing an exam. I wait for you to finish. But I’m compelled to score the governor 98% for the wonderful job he has done. My position as the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo stops me from playing partisan politics. But as the President of all Ndigbo in Anambra State, I should encourage a person who is doing well. I think the governor is doing well. And our fervent prayer as Anambra State holds (governorship) election on the 6th of November this year is for God to give us another person that will not deviate from the good works of Obiano that have brought meaningful growth and development to our dear state,” Udodeme said.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo chieftain declared that the governor concurrently developed all the sectors of the economy in the state leaving no stone unturned.

According to him, “In the health sector, you can see new machines and equipment. He (Obiano) has improved a lot of things at the General Hospitals and even in some missionary hospitals, and the patients no longer go through pain to get medical attention. Anambra has the highest or the biggest Oxygen manufacturing plant courtesy of this government, to the extent that some other states and even some countries in Africa now rely on Anambra State for the supply of oxygen. And you know this oxygen is very important in this COVID-19 pandemic.

“In terms of sports I can say the governor has also done so well. Very soon, the state will witness the commissioning of the new standard stadium he has built in Awka, the state capital.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader in Anambra maintained that the governor has made giant strides in the area of infrastructure with numerous legacy projects executed in different parts of the state, saying that “It may interest you to know that the governor is building the biggest international cargo/passenger airport in Africa in Anambra State.”

Noting that Obiano has given utmost priority to the welfare of Anambra citizens Prince Udodeme said: “We have 179/181 communities that make up Anambra State. There is a programme he initiated which he called ‘Choose Your Project Initiative’. In that ‘Choose Your Projects Initiative’, every year town union presidents, the traditional rulers of all the communities will come to Awka and say the projects they want to embark on and the governor will release N20m to them. And this ‘Choose Your Project Initiative’ has been working well for the development of the communities.”

Continuing, he remarked: “As far as security is concerned, you don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that Anambra remains the safest state in Nigeria today. Due to the enabling environment the governor has provided, you can see investors trooping into Anambra State. A lot of investors and industries are now in Awka and its environs.”
