Twitter has reportedly experienced a wave of widespread outages across the UK and worldwide blocking users from the social network.

Some 17,000 users were blocked from the service at one time overnight on Friday, with thousands more outages on Saturday, according to monitoring service Downdetector.

On Friday evening Twitter’s support team posted: ‘Tweets may not be loading for some of you. We’re working on fixing a problem and you’ll be back on the timeline soon.’

Twitter’s official status currently reads ‘All Systems Operational’, but some users still could not access the social network at the time of publication.

Web users were met with a message saying: ‘Something went wrong. Try again.’ App users received an error screen saying: ‘Tweets aren’t loading right now’.

Users who managed to post on the site reported problems ranging from being unable to tweet to being unable to log-in.

Issues were reported in every continent worldwide.

It is the second wave of outages the service has undergone in three weeks, after a crash was widely reported on March 29.

App users with Apple’s operating system made up 37 per cent of reported problems, while 15 per cent came from Android phones.
