Mystery Clouds Kanu’s Extradition As Britain Reacts
The mystery over the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), deepened late on Tuesday as Britain washed its hands off his arrest.
The British High Commission in Nigeria said that Kanu who is a British citizen was not arrested in the country, deepening the mystery how the Muhammadu Buhari was able to accomplish the task of apprehending one of its most vicious verbal enemies.
Dean Hurlock, a spokesperson of the British High Commission, while confirming the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, however, told TheCable that the IPOB leader was not picked up in the UK where he is based.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Nnamdi Kanu has been mostly based in Britain and shuttling other countries including Israel from there.
While briefing newsmen on Tuesday on the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the minister of justice eand Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami had disclosed that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested on Sunday due to “the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services”.
The British High Commission, spokesperson in his response to TheCable had disclosed that Nnamdi Kanu was picked outside of the UK.
“We can confirm that Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested in the UK for extradition purposes,” he said via text message.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Kanu following his earlier arrest was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja and was granted bail after months in captivity.
The bail was provided by Senator Enyinniya Abaribe but fled Nigeria in 2017 after security men invaded his home allegedly looking for him.
He resurfaced in the United Kingdom from where he repeatedly directed the affairs of the secessionist group, mostly issuing directives through the group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful.
