The crisis in the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been resolved with the chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi recalled to office after a month-long suspension.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Dr. Aziegbemi had been suspended following a resolution of 12 of the 14 members of the State Working Committee, SWC at a meeting on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

While no specific act of misconduct was levelled against Dr. Aziegbemi,  GreenWhiteGreen GWG gathered that members were unhappy with his role in the face-off between the party and Governor Godwin Obaseki over the call for harmonization of the structure of the party for the integration of those who defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC with the governor.

In his place, the deputy chairman, Hon. Harrison Omagbon was mandated to act on his behalf.

However, a statement on Saturday, July 3, 2021 by Chris Nehikhare disclosed that the suspension of Aziegbemi had been lifted.

He said:

“The State Working Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo state has, after its working committee meeting called to deliberate on the report of the Investigative Committee set up to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against its Chairman, Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, has exonerated and acquitted him.

“The suspension has therefore been lifted. Consequently, the Chairman,  Hon. Tony Aziegbemi will resume his office with immediate effect.

“We thank all party members, supporters and leaders for their cooperation and support during this period of self-audit.”
