Rampaging bandits terrorising the North West have killed 25 people in fresh onslaughts on four communities in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to a statement on Wednesday by Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, farms and huts were also destroyed while many sustained injuries.

Aruwan said that following Tuesday’s update on the attack in Ungwan Magaji, Kishicho, Kigam and Kikoba villages of Kauru Local Government, more details were received by the state government on casualties and property damaged during the attack.

“The figures bring the total number of those who died in the attack to 25, with three persons injured, 68 farms destroyed and 63 huts burnt”

The commissioner said Governor Nasir El-Rufai conveyed his deep condolences to the families of those who died in the attack, prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The government directed the state emergency management agency to conduct an urgent assessment of the affected communities.

Aruwan said further developments would be communicated to the public.

Kaduna has been the hotbed of violent attacks for months on end as marauding brigands unleash terror on residents of the state. Southern Kaduna has been the worse hit of the deepening security crisis in the state with many killed while others fled their ancestral homes. Schools have also had their fair share of the troubling situation with hundreds of student kidnapped in what has become a lucrative business of ransom for freedom.
