1983 Coup Against Shagari Haunting Buhari – PDP
“Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari was 80 years old. Her Jana’iza (Funeral Prayer) will take place today, at 4.00 pm, immediately after Asr prayer, at the National Mosque, Abuja.”
Hadiza was first lady of Nigeria during the second republic between 1979 to 1984. She was on the verge of continuing her reign as the first lady after her husband was reelected in 1984 when the military overthrew the civilian government, signaling the end of the second republic.
The coup threw up General Muhammadu Buhari as head of state. His regime was, however, cut short by another coup the following year.
