Arteta beats Wenger in wins after 100 games

Mikel Arteta has won more matches in his first 100 games at Arsenal than his former iconic boss, Arsene Wenger did at the London club, the Sun of London has reported.

The superior performance was buttressed on Sunday after Mikel Arteta led Arsenal to a controversial win over Watford.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the victory over Watford brought Arsenal to a remarkable fifth position on the league table, well far from the relegation zone that the club had swam in at the beginning of the current league season when it had its worst beginning of the season in decades.

Arteta has won 54 of his first 100 games in charge, compared to Arsene Wenger’s 51 in the same period.

And the incident-packed 1-0 victory over Watford was Arteta’s 54th win as Gunners boss.

Not only is that better than Wenger’s tally of 51, but only George Graham managed more (56) in his opening 100 Arsenal matches.

Emile Smith Rowe’s controversial winner – scored after Watford put the ball out for an injury – was the 163rd goal of the Arteta reign.

Again, that is an improvement on Wenger, with the Frenchman’s side managing 157 goals after taking over in 1996.

Arteta’s side have, however, lost more than his old boss’.

The Highbury team of the 1990s drew 31 and lost just 18 of the first century under Wenger, though.
