Pep Guardiola and Manchester City came out on top when they clashed with Chelsea at the Etihad stadium. It was a game of massive significance for both teams as City looked to be within touching distance at the top of the table while Chelsea were seeking important three points to keep them in the title race. The game was expected to be a firecracker of an encounter, as the top two teams in the Premier League went head to head for the second time with the reverse fixture ending in a 0-1 away win to the Cityzens.

However, Manchester City were prepared not to allow any slip up as Pep Guardiola lined up a strong XI to match Tuchel’s defensive resilience. City dominated for the most part of the game and that was evident in the 70th minute, when Kevin De Bruyne produced an outrageous piece of brilliance to give them the lead. The Belgian curled in a magnificent effort past Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga after shrugging off an initial tackle. A worthy game changer as it proved to be a tight encounter between the teams. This win now sees City possess a 13-point lead at the top of the table and now look to be well and truly out of sight in the title race. Pep’s men are ever close to clinching a 4th Premier League title in five years if they keep up this momentum.

Four key facts from the Manchester City and Chelsea clash:

1. Chelsea failed to attempt a shot at the Etihad in the first half, the first time they have failed to do so in the Premier League under Thomas Tuchel, and the first time overall since May 2018 vs Newcastle.

2. Kevin De Bruyne has now scored 5 goals against his former club Chelsea in the Premier League, the most by a player against the Blues after having previously played for them in the competition.

3. Kevin De Bruyne has scored 21 Premier League goals from outside the box, the most of any player since his first season with Manchester City (2015-16), and the joint-most of any Man City player in the competition’s history (level with Sergio Aguero).

4. The Manchester City defeat of Chelsea meant that they have won each of their last 12 Premier League games, the 9th run of 12+ successive victories in the competition’s history, with the Cityzens now responsible for four of those (and all under Pep Guardiola).
