The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona witnessed a second half Napoli masterclass as Victor Osimhen’s precise finishing skills handed ten-man Udinese a 2-1 defeat.

Napoli’s form has been somewhat unpredictable in recent weeks, and they attempted to make amends right from the start against Udinese. However, the away side had other plans as they took the lead through Gerard Deulofeu who finished beautifully into the bottom left corner midway through the first half.

A reinvigorated Napoli side took to the field and turned the match on its head within twenty minutes of the restart, thanks to a quick-fire brace from Osimhen. The Nigerian’s first was a pinpoint header, while he swept home with aplomb from inside the box for his second.

The Super Eagles star yet again this season singlehandedly rescued him team from the blushes of defeat as that important win keeps their title hopes intact going level on points with league leaders Milan. And with the World Cup qualifiers coming up at the end of this month, Osimhen’s form gives Nigeria a big boost and an edge over their fierce rivals as they hope to defeat the Black Stars of Ghana and book a ticket to Qatar 2022.

Here are three records Victor Osimhen broke after Napoli’s 2-1 win over Udinese;

• Victor Osimhen is the first Nigerian to score 10+ goals in two consecutive seasons in the Serie A and also the 4th African player to net 10 in consecutive seasons in the competition’s history.

• After his outstanding brace against Udinese, Victor Osimhen scored his first goal of the day with a bullet header and that goal is his sixth headed goal in all competitions this season.

• Victor Osimhen has now scored 10 goals or more in each of his last three seasons ;

– 2019/20: 27 games, 13 goals

– 2020/21: 24 games, 10 goals

– 2021/22: 20 games, 11 goals (and counting)

He has eight more games left to set a new personal best.
