Four Takeaways As Arsenal Beat Aston Villa To Strengthen Top Four Grip

Arsenal came out on top in a full-blooded 1-0 win over Aston Villa, achieving a fifth consecutive Premier League away win for the first time since May 2015.
Both Aston Villa and Arsenal have improved immeasurably as the season has progressed, but it was the Gunners who showcased superiority in a dominant first period.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked at home at Villa Park, controlling possession and keeping the Villans imprisoned in their own half. Bukayo Saka was the primary source of Villa’s troubles as he constantly threatened from the right getting his reward on the half hour mark when he buried an effort into the net from the edge of the box to give Arsenal a deserved lead.
Looking to turn the tide, the hosts took a more proactive approach in the second half as they increasingly grew in confidence forcing Arsenal to retreat. However, despite changes from Steven Gerrard to savour at least a point, Arsenal held on to secure an important away win in the top four race.
The result keeps the Gunners in the driving seat to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, while it leaves Villa to a mid-table obscurity.

• Arsenal have won five consecutive away Premier League games for the first time since May 2015 (5), with their last three such victories coming by a single goal.
• Bukayo Saka has scored the most goals for a player aged 21 or under in the Premier League this season (9) and is also 3rd for the most goal contributions for a player the same age across Europe’s top five leagues, only behind Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior.
