Ekweremadu: Uxbridge Court Defers Bail Application

The organ harvest case involving former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice was on Thursday unexpectedly brought forward for a bail hearing.

However, media reports on Thursday claimed that the hearing originally scheduled for July 7, at the Uxbridge Magistrate court did not grant bail to the Ekweremadus.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Ekweremadu who has a sick daughter suffering from kidney failure had gotten the go ahead of one David Ukpo to be used a donor for Sonia Ekweremadu.

However, after medical investigations showed that the man’s kidney did not match the potential donor reportedly was unwilling to return to Nigeria and reported the Ekweremadus to the Metropolitan Police with the accusation of child slavery and organ harvesting turning into an issue.

David Ukpo had claimed that he was 15 years old, a claim that has since been disclaimed with the revelations from his 22 year old younger brother and details of his passport granted to him.

A report by the BBC Pidgin English said that the application for bail was turned down as the court resolved to hold further deliberations to July 7 as originally scheduled.

The Metropolitan Police in their statement last Thursday announcing the arrest of the Ekweremadus had said: “Two people have been charged with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today.

“Charges were brought against the pair, who are from Nigeria, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team.

“A child has now been safeguarded.

“The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.”
