Police Launch Probe As 21-year-old mechanic commits suicide In Rivers State

Rivers State Police Command has launched  an investigation into the death of a 21-year-old apprentice mechanic identified as Sunday Orime who allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Wobo street in Mile 3, Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the incident was yet to be uncovered. Some residents, however, claimed that the victim took his own life on Thursday night.

The Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu Oroworukwo community, in Mile 3 Diobu, Godstime Ihunwo who confirmed the incident said he rushed to the scene following a distress call from residents of the compound at about 8 pm on Thursday and informed the police.

He added that the corpse has been deposited in the mortuary.

“Yes, I can confirm that. Yesterday (Thursday) by 8pm I received a distressed call from residents around 27 Wobo Street in my jurisdiction.

“I rushed down to the place and confirmed it was true. So I quickly informed the police at Nkpolu Division and as I speak with you, the corpse has been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt mortuary.

The spokesperson of the Rivers state Police Command, Grace Iringe-koko, who confirmed the incident via a phone call disclosed that an investigation has commenced to ascertain what may have led to such action.

“Yes, we got the report this morning and we are trying to ascertain what would have prompted the action. But the police have already evacuated his corpse,” Iringe-koko said.
