Confusion Trails Reports On Atiku, Wike London Meeting
Confusion was shadowing reports of a planned meeting in London on Thursday between Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nyesom Wike, the leader of the group of party members aligned against the candidate.
Whereas multiple media reports claimed that the two were to meet on Thursday, close aides and associates of Atiku denied any such meeting.
“Take it from me, there is no meeting between Atiku and Wike,” a very close associate of the PDP candidate told GWG. According to him Atiku went to Paris and would be back by the weekend.
“There is no meeting with Wike, take it from me,” the source said.
Atiku’s media aide, Mr Paul Ibe, also corroborated the claim telling Daily Trust that his principal is in Europe on a “business meeting”.
“His Excellency travelled to Europe on Monday after participating in the opening ceremony and plenary of the NBA Annual General Conference for a business meeting,” he said.
Ibe, however, noted that he cannot confirm that the presidential candidate will be having any political meeting with anyone during his visit to Europe.
GWG reports that the buzz over a meeting between Atiku and Wike in London followed a similar meeting between the Rivers State governor and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the APC.
The meeting on Tuesday was said to have caused Atiku to scramble to London, a claim that his camp was denying on Thursday.
