The Sunday night attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has left many in shock as to who over what could have prompted the attack on the billionaire businessman and politician.

GWG had reported how Senator Ifeanyi Ubah escaped with bullet wounds but at least three police escorts in his convoy were killed when they were attacked by unknown gunmen at Enugwu Ukwu in Njikoka local government area of the state on Sunday.

The targeted shooting at the convoy of the senator was on Sunday night being received as the hallmark of an assassination attempt which has left many in awe. The shock in the attack on Senator Ubah is against the background of his popularity among his people and especially his Nnewi base where he is adored on account of his generosity. He has against odds pulled his weight using the platform of a political party that is otherwise unknown elsewhere to win elections.

Some were alluding that it could either have been prompted by a business consideration or be prompted by politics.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is the chairman of Capital Oil, a company that has, however, been severally reported to be in financial illiquidity despite its sprawling assets in handling importation of petroleum products.

GWG reports that Senator Ifenayi Ubah is also the national leader of the Young Peoples Party, YPP and the party’s senate candidate in the forthcoming Senate election in Anambra South.

His main challengers for the seat include Chief Chris Ubah who is flying the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Rep Chris Azubugo, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; and Dr Obinna Uzor, the candidate for Labour Party.

None of the three major candidates have been associated with gunmen in the past as to be directly linked to the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Chief Chris Uba, the PDP candidate was in the past linked to the abduction of Governor Chris Ngige but that was undertaken with the alleged connivance of men of the Nigerian Police and not with the kind of gunmen who operated the attack on the convoy of Ifenayi on Sunday night and hence may not be directly connected to this.

The development has thus left many in astonishment as to who may have caused the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
