Key Facts As Manchester United Beat Sheriff 2-1 To Seal First Europa League Win

Sheriff Manchester United

Manchester United put their UEFA Europa League opening defeat behind them with a comfortable 2-0 away victory over Sheriff Tiraspol. Jadon Sancho’s opener and Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal of the season were enough to seal the three points for the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag’s men were beaten at Old Trafford 1-0 by Real Soceidad in their first group game while their opponents Sheriff came into the game off the back of a 3-0 away win over Omonia. However, United silenced the raucous home crowd by opening the scoring through Jadon Sancho who scored precisely after a through ball from Christian Eriksen. The Englishman was omitted from the national team squad and he proved his worth yet again with his third goal of the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo then had the chance to get on the score sheet for the first time this season and he did that with aplomb as he slotted home from the penalty spot after a foul on Diogo Dalot was spotted by the referee. United saw out the rest of the game convincingly as they picked up their first win in the group, ahead of back-to-back fixtures with group minnows Omonia Nicosia.

Here are key facts from the game as Manchester United beat Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0;

• Tonight, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 699th goal of his club career, with Sheriff Tiraspol the 124th side he’s netted against in all competitions – it was also the first time he has scored in the UEFA Europa League.

• Jadon Sancho’s goal today marks the third time the Englishman has opened the scoring in his last six matches, each coming within the first 25 minutes.

• Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his first goal of the season in his 8th appearance, the lowest goal tally of his career for over 20 years during the same number of games.
