The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced the diversion of traffic from the Maryland/Mende Underpass beginning Tuesday, September 20, 2022, to allow for construction work on the Opebi/Ojota Link bridge.

Dr Frederic Oladeinde, the Commissioner for Transportation, made the announcement in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday.

Oladeinde assures that alternate routes have been planned to ease traffic flow while the underpass is being rebuilt.

He advised drivers to use the Ojota interchange to connect Maryland and its surrounding areas.

Oladeinde also advised motorists heading to the axis’s inner streets to use Mobolaji Bank Anthony to get to Emmanuel, Aderibigbe Shitta, and Adeoye Adeyemi Streets.

Other motorists heading toward Mende and its environs, according to him, could use Mende Street to connect Ajose Street and Oki Lane to continue their journey.

He also stated that due to unforeseen circumstances, the repairs of a section of the Lagos bound lane at the Iyana Era/Badagry Expressway scheduled for September 17 had been postponed until further notice.

Besides the diversion of traffic at Mende, the commissioner went on to say that the new date would be announced to the public by the LASG.

While thanking motorists for their patience and cooperation, Oladeinde reaffirmed that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to affected routes to minimize inconveniences.

He sought the support of Lagos residents during this season of road construction because the benefits of the ongoing projects would alleviate the state’s traffic problems. (NAN).
