The trial of a motorcyclist rider, Dahiru Ayuba, and five others in the murder of a 37-year-old sound engineer, David Imoh, has begun before a Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square.

Imoh was allegedly murdered by Okada riders on May 12, 2022, after an altercation over N100.

Ayuba and others, including Susan Moses, Chigozie Anthony, Christopher Dauda, Joseph Tella, and Sunday Azi, are on trial before Justice I. O. Harrison on six counts.

They were arraigned in July on six counts of conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, and grievous harm, which the Lagos State Government had preferred against them.

The alleged crimes were committed at the NITEL Junction, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.

During the arraignment, Dr Babajide Martins, Director of Public Prosecutions, stated that the defendants “unlawfully killed David Imoh, aged 37, by severely beating him and setting him ablaze.”

The prosecutor also told the court that the defendants beat to death one Frank Olatunji and one Philip Balogun, a keyboardist.

The DPP called Balogun at the cases resumed hearing on Wednesday.

Balogun, the first prosecution witness, told Justice Harrison how he was surrounded by the six defendants, including Olatunji and the late Imoh.

He claimed he suffered head and ear injuries and was hospitalized for five days at the FMA, Yaba, and Ever Care Hospitals.

The witness stated that he was still undergoing eye treatment in Ikeja.

He told the judge that the second defendant was the one who assaulted them.

According to Balogun, the third defendant (Moses) pointed out where the deceased was hiding in a bar.

The case was postponed to November 29 to allow for the continuation of the trial.
