Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorcha Ayu, on Saturday, held a consultative meeting with Gov Bala Mohammed some other leaders of the party in Bauchi on Saturday amid talks of the party drawing up an Option B against the rebellion of five governors.

Ayu accompanied by the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, former governor of Jigawa, Sule Lamido and Mohammed met behind closed doors.

The meeting according to Governor Mohammed aims to solve ‘grey’ areas around the party and with it the prospects of an Option B to cut off the influence of the five PDP governors working against the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

GWG.NG reports that Governors Nyesom Wike, (Rivers); Okeize Ikpeazu, (Abia); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, (Enugu); Seyi Makinde, (Oyo) and Samuel Ortom, (Benue) are aligned together in seeking the sack of Ayu as national chairman. They allege among others that he had pledged to step down should a northerner emerge as presidential candidate.

There were claims at the weekend that the meeting of the PDP chiefs in Bauchi was aimed at finetuning what sources claim as Option B which is the strategy on how the party could overcome the rebellion of the five governors.

Central to the option GWG.NG gathered is for the party to withdraw support for the governors and their supporters in the 2023 General Election.

Speaking shortly before the meeting, Ayu described Mohammed as one of the major national stakeholders who contributed to the development of the party.

“We are here to brief you on some of the developments that are going on in the party, and to seek your wise counsel because you’re not just the governor of Bauchi, you’re a leader in this country

“You are experienced in all the places you served, and we thought people like you in this campaign, from time-to-time, we need to come around, consult and brief you on some things,” he said.

Responding, Mohammed said that he is a loyal member of the party and believed in it, adding that “we rose on the back of the party to become what we have become.

“We know that we came from ANPP (All Nigerian Peoples Party), but certainly whatever we have became it’s courtesy of this party.

“We have discussed issues affecting the party, especially my area as a vice chairman of the presidential campaign council in charge of the north.

“So, they came with issues regarding some grey areas that we crossed the teeth and doted the eyes, and it’s not for public consumption.

“Certainly, it is part of closing rank, discussing issues which the National Chairman with humility came down to Bauchi with Director-General himself and of course our leader,” he said. ( NAN)
