Edevbie suspense

Any expectation of the PDP in Delta State moving in one accord towards the 2023 governorship election was put on suspense on Saturday after the first runner-up in the governorship primary, Olorogun David Edevbie deferred a decision on who he would support.

Rather, he said he would take the right decision that would be of collective benefit to his supporters at the appropriate time. He also did not say when the appropriate time would be.

GWG.NG reports that the decision puts Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his chosen successor, Sheriff Oborevwori in suspense with the prospects of working within a divided family ahead of the 2023 Election.

Edevbie had challenged the emergence of Oborevwori at the governorship primary up to the Supreme Court where the jurists ruled in favour of the speaker.

Significantly, following the judgment, Edevbie had congratulated Oborevwori after the judgment but shied away from embracing him and pledging support. The same suspense was echoed on Saturday at a gathering of some of his most formidable ground troops at a reception in his hometown, Afiesere, Edevbie.

”The right decision that will benefit me and my team would be taken at the appropriate time,” Edevbie said putting his alliance with Okowa in suspense as he described the Supreme Court judgment that endorsed Oborevwori as unfavourable.

Edevbie’s ominous signal was further clarified by his putative running mate, Ossai N Ossai who said that the struggle had just begun and that further directives would come from the leaders of the group.

Among the notable personalities present at the reception and who draw allegiance to the state’s penultimate governor, Chief James Ibori were Mr. Chiedu Ebie, immediate past SSG, Chief Itiakpo (Malik) Ikpokpo, Vincent Uduaghan, Olorogun  Isaac Akpoveta, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Rear Admiral John Kpokpogri (rtd) and Pastor Champion Kpateghe, amongst others.
