The All Progressives Congress, APC has explained the Emilokan claim by its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu just as it has again dismissed the endorsement of Peter Obi by President Olusegun Obasanjo as inconsequential.

Speaking in an interview, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Felix Morka said the term Emilokan did not mean a sense of entitlement by Tinubu but as a demonstration of his readiness to serve having invested much in the nation’s democratic struggles.

Morka spoke in an interview on Arise News Channel.

GWG.ng reports that the question from the hosts followed Obasanjo’s letter to youths on New Year day to guard against those with entitlement or Emilokan mentality. The warning followed Tinubu’s declaration of Emilokan in the days leading to the APC national convention while meeting with party stakeholders in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Replying to a question as to the injunction from Obasanjo on Tinubu and Emilokan, Morka, the APC spokesman said:

“Our a candidate is a recurring figure in our democratic efforts from over the period of military dictatorship to today. He was governor of Lagos State, he discharged and acquitted himself creditably as governor of Lagos State.

“He was an aspirant and is now candidate of the All Progressives Congress. If he says that he has served Nigeria well to serve for the office of President, that is what Emilokan is all about. I don’t think it is about any sense of entitlement. He is simply saying I toiled hard for this country and I have the character, the vision and the presence of mind to govern this country. That is what he is saying.

“From what my Yoruba speaking friends say, they say a man who has invested so much in thinking about Nigeria, in loving this country, in sacrificing and who is prepared and I think if he says he knows about service I think he deserves an opportunity to serve this country,” the APC spokesman said in defence of Tinubu following criticisms over his use of the term Emilokan.
