One of Nigeria’s top female basketball players, Joy Aku has died of tuberculosis after crying out for help on her dying bed.

A Nigerian basketball stakeholder, Oni Afolabi confirmed the death.

Aku was diagnosed with acute tuberculosis, and had cried out for financial assistance while receiving medical attention.

However, she gave up the ghost on Wednesday.

The late athlete played for renowned club sides including Sunshine Angels of Akure, FCT Angels, Dolphins and MFM.

“Rest in peace Joy. I hope you will be able to play some pick up games with some Nigerian basketball legends that have gone before you.

“Death is an inevitable end. Death of a loved one is not a time to cry or sorrow. It is just another reminder that we should all be prepared for the end of the journey on earth”, Afolabi wrote.
