Presidential candidate of the Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has cancelled his plans to hold a campaign rally in Rivers State. The plans for the rally were cancelled on Monday following alleged security threats to the event, his coordinator in the state, Senator Lee Maeba disclosed on Monday.

GWG.ng reports that plans for the rally had been repeatedly mired in controversy over requests for the stadium and threats to the lives of Atiku campaign officials in the state.

The cancellation of the plans follows the dispute between the mainstream of the PDP and Governor Nyesom Wike who as leader of the G5 governors had been trenchant in the demand for the resignation of Senator Iyrochia Ayu as national chairman of the PDP.

Atiku had repeatedly refused to cave in to the demands for Ayu’s resignation.

Atiku in a statement on Monday through Rivers PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) said the rally billed for this week after earlier previous repeated postponements would no longer hold.

The statement by Sen Lee Maeba, PDP PCC Chairman in Rivers, noted that, “The expected victory of Atiku Abubakar does not worth the blood of any Rivers man or woman.”
