Natasha Loses Kogi Central Senate Seat, Ekwunife Too

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as winner of the February 25 election for Kogi Central Senate seat beating Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge winner of the keenly contested election.

Prof. Rotimi Ajayi, the INEC Returning Officer for Kogi central senatorial district, announced the result on Tuesday in Okene.

He said Sadiku-Ohere garnered 52,132 votes against Natasha’s 51,763 votes to clinch the seat, a difference of 369 votes between them.

“Engineer Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere of the APC having scored the highest votes in the election for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat is hereby declared winner, and is therefore returned elected,” Ajayi said.

NAN reports that supporters of the APC candidate went into jubilation immediately after the declaration by the result, chanting “we have won”.

GWG.ng reports that besides Natasha’s loss of the Senate seat in Kogi that INEC has declared Sen. Victor Umeh of the Labour Party (LP) as the winner of Anambra South Senate Seat.

INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Chuka Enuka announced the result on Tuesday in Awka.

Enuka said that Umeh scored 103,608 votes to beat his closet rival, Mr Dozie Nwankwo of APGA who scored 69,702, while Sen. Uche Ekwunife of PDP, and incumbent senator scored 49,532 to place third.

“With the powers vested on me as the Returning Officer, the candidate of the Labour Party having polled the highest number of vote cast and having fulfilled all requirements is therefore declared elected and returned,” he said.
