Nollywood actress, Kemi Lala Akindoju, has encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the challenges experienced during the recently concluded elections.

In a social media post, she acknowledged that it was normal to feel discouraged when an election is perceived to be a sham and those in authority appear to be unperturbed.

Akindoju, however, urged Nigerians not to give up, especially the youth who are the future of the country.

She noted that the journey towards the Nigeria of our dreams has begun and that building a critical mass of like minds is essential to achieving that dream.

The actress also addressed the discrepancies and failings of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that they should be documented and legal actions taken, even if it is for the record.

She further highlighted that many Nigerians across the country did not get to vote, leading to a higher level of disillusionment.

Despite the challenges faced during the election, Akindoju called on Nigerians with Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to come out and vote in the upcoming governorship election.

She acknowledged the fear for personal safety, as well as the lack of faith in INEC or the current leaders, but emphasized the need to keep exercising the rights of the citizens.

Akindoju noted that the battles for the soul of the nation are not won in a year or two or three, and that Nigerians must continue to speak up, engage the government, and hold leaders accountable.

She urged Nigerians not to be silenced, emphasizing that in a democracy, it has to be about the people.
