Uncertainty over the fate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State was deepening on Saturday after former Secretary to the Delta State Government, SSG, Comrade Ovuzuorie S. Macaulay dumped the party.

His resignation from the PDP is coming in the wake of intrigues over the struggle for the soul of the state following the meltdown of the party during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

GWG.ng reports that the PDP despite fielding the incumbent governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as its presidential running mate that the party found it difficult to ride on that platform to achieve 25% of the votes.

Macaulay served as SSG in the Emmanuel Uduaghan government and following the bad blood that shook the relationship between the Uduagan administration and Okowa that the bad blood seemed to have continued.

Noting how the Okowa government appeared to have fenced him out in his resignation letter, he said the “overt exhibition of impunity, blackmail, falsehood and disregard for party rules” by the leadership forced him out of the party.

According to Comrade Macaulay, “Over the years I painfully endured the arrogance and misdemeanour of party leadership and actually appealed for a change to no avail.

“Thus I am left with no choice but to bow out of the party.”

GWG.ng reports that the defection of Macaulay follows insinuations about the intentions of Chief James Ibori, the penultimate governor of the state.

It is alleged that having secured the election of his daughter to the House of Representatives that Ibori is weighing the options.

Sources said on Saturday that the group of loyalists around Ibori are to take a major decision this weekend.
