The Christian Association of Nigeria has applauded FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc for accepting responsibility and delivering a public apology in the wake of the contentious Good Friday social media advertorial for Peak Milk.

Daniel Okoh, president of CAN had called the commercial “insensitive, offensive, and totally unacceptable.” The advertisement that CAN objected to featured a picture of a dented, two-holed Peak Milk can with a nail next to it that was oozing milk.

The caption read: Bruised and Pierced. #GoodFriday. CAN had previously stated that it was thinking about taking significant legal action against the company, including a Christian product boycott.

However, earlier on Tuesday, Ore Famurewa, the Executive Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc (Corporate Affairs), makers of Peak Milk issued an apology to the CAN President.

ā€œWe hereby restate our commitment to our unwavering mission of nurturing Nigeria while maintaining the respect of all religious laws, tenets and guidelines. Once again, please accept our deepest apology and pledge to prevent a reoccurrence of such in the future. Do accept the assurances of my esteemed regards,ā€ Famurewa said.

In response, CAN issued a statement through its general secretary Joseph Daramola in which it stated that it had accepted the company’s apology over the Peak milk advert and urged other organizations to exercise prudence when running commercials.
