2023 Nigeria Decides
Nigerians Make Demands As US Issues Visa Ban On 2023 Election Riggers
By Emmanuel Aziken
Nigerians were on Monday making demands after the United States Secretary of States, Anthony Blinken disclosed that the country had imposed a visa ban on politicians and others who perpetrated the rigging of the 2023 General Election in Nigeria.
However, as with 2015 when the country first imposed the visa restrictions, names were not given.
GWG.ng reports that the names of those normally affected by the visa ban are not given but those affected are normally turned back whenever they apply for the US visa.
GWG.ng had scooped in 2019 that four governors including two from the Northwest, one from the North-Central and the other from the Southwest were affected by the visa ban. Also affected were the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC in a Northwest state and a minister from the South-South.
Blinken, in a tweet on Monday, said the US is committed to supporting Nigeria’s aspirations to solidify the democratic process and rule of law.
In a tweet on Monday, Blinken said, “We have imposed visa restrictions on specific individuals who undermined the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 elections. We remain committed to supporting Nigerian aspirations to strengthen democracy and rule of law.”
Meanwhile, Nigerians have responded to the tweet with their suggestions on who should be on the ban and a demand on the United States administration to name the Nigerians on the visa ban arising from their roles in the 2023 Nigeria General Election.
