The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership is to meet its senators thon Monday as the party decides on the tussle for the position of Senate Minority Leader between the Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike tendencies.

GWG.ng reports that the Atiku tendency is fronting Senator Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State and a former speaker of the House Representatives while the Wike tendency is projecting Senator Agom Jarigbe from Cross River State.

Senator Jarigbe, a second-term senator is famously remembered as the man who defeated former Governor Ben Ayade in the Cross River North Senate battle.

Besides the duo, a number of stakeholders are also looking at Senator Abdul Ningi, a former Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate and leader of the House of Representatives.

There are reports that a number of PDP stalwarts are wary of the interest of the Wike led group given the role the G5 played in sabotaging the party in the last presidential election.

Even more is the increasing romance between Wike and the All Progressives Congress, APC and there are indications that the former Rivers State governor may emerge as a minister in the Bola Tinubu government.

However, those wary of Wike and the APC infiltrating the opposition ranks through the appointment of the Minority Leader are also fighting the allegations of trust deficit around Tambuwal given his past roles in sabotaging the PDP in 2015.

GWG.ng reports that Tambuwal’s defection to the APC in 2014 when he was speaker was part of the challenges that crippled the PDP ahead of the 2015 presidential election.

Against the insinuations around Jarigbe and Tambuwal has fed suggestions of the emergence of a third option which some senators see in Senator Ningi.

However, Ningi is also seen as part of the Atiku crowd and would face opposition from the Wike group in the quest for the Senate minority leader position.
