NAFDAC Warns Against Using Contaminated Whippy Mayonnaise
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians on the consumption of an unwholesome brand of Mayonnaise called Whippy.
A statement released by the agency on Monday, July 24, said the move followed the receipt of a complaint by a consumer which led it to take samples of the product for laboratory analysis, which showed the brand to be unsatisfactory.
The agency further stated that the product, which was sourced locally from the manufacturer in Onitsha, Anambra State, has become rancid and exhibits a colour different from the original colour of mayonnaise, even though they were still within shelf life.
According to a statement by NAFDAC, all zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to carry out surveillance and mop up the implicated batches of the unwholesome product. The agency further urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid consumption, sale, or distribution of the implicated batches of the unwholesome Whippy Real Mayonnaise.
The details of the implicated batch of the product are Pack sizes: 245g and 460g in plastic bottles; Manufacture Date: June 2022; Best Before December 2023; and Batch numbers: OA2GP220614A (Pack size 245g), OA2GP220611A and OA2GP220617A (Pack size 460g).
‘’Anyone in possession of the above-mentioned batches of Whippy Real Mayonnaise is advised to submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. If you, or someone you know, have consumed this product, or suffered any adverse reaction/event after consumption, you are advised to seek immediate medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicion of distribution and sale of unwholesome packaged food products to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFDAC on 0800-162-3322 or via email: sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng” it said
