In a remarkable display of talent and innovation, 11-year-old Joshua Fred has been honored with the prestigious Lagos Government Boy Child Initiative Award for his exceptional coding skills.

Joshua’s achievement highlights the success of the initiative launched by Lagos State First Lady, Claudina Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, aimed at fostering responsible and skilled young individuals within society.

Joshua Fred, the winner of the junior boy category of the award, secured his victory by creating a functional calculator application using his coding expertise. As a testament to his accomplishment, the young prodigy was presented with a cash prize of N450,000 by the Lagos State First Lady herself.

Expressing her excitement, Joshua’s mother, Ngozi Emereole Fred, took to Facebook to share the news, saying, “Congratulations to my boy Josh. Champion Junior category of First lady of Lagos state talent hunt. No be everyday we get opportunity to go to state House. I remember how this journey started. Thank God today, your passion has made you a champion. So proud of you my boy.”

Joshua’s journey began at JoJo Kiddies Smile School in Satellite Town, Lagos, where he laid the foundation for his coding skills. Mater Dei Height College further nurtured his abilities, ensuring his growth in the field. The support of his uncle, Ikenna, as well as Mr. Malik and Mr. Bassey, played an integral role in guiding him throughout his journey.

This achievement by Joshua Fred in Lagos recalls a similar success story from three years ago, when 10-year-old Nigerian prodigy Emmanuella Mayaki was appointed as a coding instructor at Southfield Primary School in Coventry, England. Emmanuella’s appointment as an after-school coding club teacher showcased her exceptional skills in programming. Her responsibilities included teaching fellow children her age the fundamentals of coding, encompassing languages such as HTML and CSS.
