The camp of President Bola Tinubu has responded with gusto to the denunciation of the Muslim-Muslim ticket by Atiku Abubakar at his press conference on Thursday describing his opposition as self-serving and a contradiction of his past.

GWG.ng reports that Atiku had at his World Press Conference on Thursday revealed that his point of departure with Tinubu politically occurred prior to the 2007 presidential election when he rejected the bid by the then Lagos State governor to be his running mate on the presidential ticket of the Action Congress, AC.

He said that he turned away emissaries sent by Tinubu to him on the basis of the fact that he could not fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket. He said that then he didnā€™t support it and would not support it now.

Atiku said that following his rejection of the Tinubu plea the then Lagos State governor then went on to support the PDP candidate, Alhaji Umaru Yar`Adua in the 2007 presidential election.

After hours of the claim, the camp of the president replying through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi has now accused Atiku of lying on the Muslim-Muslim ticket. According to him Atiku supported the 1993 Muslim-Muslim ticket of MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) the presidential aide said that besides the lie on the Muslim-Muslim ticket that Atiku had also been in the same boat with Tinubu on a number of times since 2007.

He said:

I think forgetfulness as a result of old age may be playing trick on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

At his press conference yesterday, he said he had never supported Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and he will always oppose to it. He also said politically, he parted ways with President Tinubu in 2007.

The two claims are not correct.

In 1992 under the Social Democratic Party, the Waziri Adamawa actually sought and fought very hard to be the running mate of Late Chief MKO Abiola for the 1993 presidential election. He lost to Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe.

Again in 2014, after he became a political orphan in PDP, former VP Atiku came to find refuge in newly formed APC midwived by President Tinubu and  other opposition leaders. Before he wandered back to PDP,  he was in same political boat with President Tinubu from 2014-2017 and sought his support to become President of Nigeria in 2015.

GWG.ng reports that a number of Tinubu supporters have been quick to like the post by Mr Ajayi and a response from the camp of Atiku is being awaited on the Muslim-Muslim ticket controversy.
