DSS on UAVs

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DGSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi, has unveiled plans for the DSS to deploy locally produced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones in the near future.

He unveiled the plans on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EMIC) 16 at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) in Abuja, an educational arm of the DSS.

Bichi further disclosed that the DSS intends to utilize locally manufactured ammunition, akin to the current AK-47 rifle.

“We have so many potential available in Nigeria. We will soon deploy locally manufactured Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and other ammunition. Ammunition similar to the AK-47 ones, which are locally manufactured here, will soon be deployed to address security issues in Nigeria,” affirmed Bichi said.

Addressing broader security concerns in the country, Bichi urged Nigerians to embrace peace, emphasizing the transformative potential of turning adversity and differences into strength.

The Commandant of the National Institute of Security Studies, Ayodele Adeleke, also shared insights during the ceremony. He revealed that 86 participants successfully graduated from the EMIC 16, a 10-month program dedicated to hard work and perseverance. The course, which commenced on February 13, 2023, initially had 89 participants, but unfortunately, three individuals passed away during the duration.

Adeleke highlighted the course’s objective of preparing participants to face the challenges of the world. The theme of the lecture, “Rebuilding Trust in Plural Societies: Pathways for Sustainable Development in Africa,” was deemed apt, addressing crucial topics such as peace-building.
