Six Rivers State commissioners with long allegiance to Nyesom Wike have resigned from the Governor Simi Fubara cabinet even as the FCT minister on his part suffered a major blow after some PDP stakeholders in his ward in Obio/Akpor LGA disowned his actions against the governor.

GWG.ng reports that the Rivers State Commissioners for Works, Dr Dax George-Kelly and his equivalent in the Special Duties portfolio, Emeka Woke on Thursday resigned their appointments from the Governor Simii Fubara administration in moves that were aimed at further isolating the ‘rebel’ governor.

Others who resigned were Isaac Kamalu (Finance), Inime Aguma (Special Welfare and Rehabilitation) and Prince Chinedu Nmom (Education).

The resignation of the five commissioners followed the earlier and similar action of the Attorney General, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor from the Rivers State cabinet. He cited personal reasons.

GWG.ng reports that before his resignation from the cabinet came to light that Dr George-Kelly was reported to have posted a puzzling message on Facebook, urging people to “appreciate” their fathers which was seen as a statement on the crisis in Rivers State.

“We all have fathers. Pls don’t forget your father. Our fathers laboured for us all to become graduates or whatever we are today. Let’s appreciate them,” he was reported to have written.

Meanwhile, following the resignations of the Rivers State commissioners, stakeholders in the PDP from Wike’s ward in Obio/Akpor Local Government met on Thursday evening and came out with a resolution disowning the actions of the former governor against his successor.

The stakeholders were quoted as saying that they saw no reason why the former governor should persecute him.

GWG.ng reports that Obio/Akpor is the political base of the FCT minister having served two terms as local government chairman before becoming chief of staff to Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
