Sowore Urges Akeredolu’s Resignation Amid Health Concerns

Renowned rights activist, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, has passionately called for the resignation of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.

Sowore made the plea for Akeredolu’s resignation during a town hall meeting at the Akure City Hall on Saturday.

Sowore emphasized the urgency to free the state from alleged mismanagement of resources by a select few individuals in stating his reason for Akeredolu for iiiiiSpecifically, he challenged the House of Assembly to publicly present the letter purportedly written by Governor Akeredolu for his medical leave to authenticate its genuineness.

While clarifying that his presence wasn’t linked to the upcoming governorship election, Sowore underscored the importance of accountable governance for the citizens’ welfare.

Expressing concern over Akeredolu’s continuation in office amid reported health challenges, Sowore criticized the governor’s receipt of a security vote while absent from the state in further demanding his resignation from office..

Highlighting the political impasse and its adverse impact on development, Sowore stressed the necessity for citizens to defend their constitutional rights.

“We’ve tolerated this situation for too long in Ondo State. This crisis has lingered for more than a year now. They cannot produce any letter from the governor because he is not in a condition to sign any document at the moment. There is no such letter,” declared Sowore.

He urged Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to ensure transparent governance that directly benefits the people in the coming months.

“This isn’t merely about Akeredolu’s resignation or resumption, but about ensuring that individuals appointed into political offices have the people’s interests at heart,” Sowore emphasized. “With elections on the horizon, it’s crucial to be discerning. Enough is enough; this must cease.”

In alignment with these sentiments, Human Rights Lawyer Tope Temokun criticized Akeredolu’s governance amid reported health challenges during his second term. Temokun urged Ondo State residents to continue exposing governmental shortcomings for the state’s advancement.

Governor Akeredolu reportedly transferred power to his deputy on December 13 due to prolonged health issues.
