Owa Monarch Enjoins Communities On Self-Help Projects

The Obi of Owa and immediate past chairman of the Delta State Traditional  Rulers Council, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11 has charged communities in Delta State to initiate self help development projects to complement the development efforts of government at all levels.

The Owa monarch gave the charge while inaugurating the Alioye Community hall / Events Centre, a project built through self help by the community in Owa Alero, Ika North East local Government Area. Dr Efeizomor 11  said the project which started over three decades ago  was well conceived and diligently executed by the community adding that the project  would add value to the socio economic well-being of the people.

The revered monarch explained that the essence of  complementary development projects in communities had become inevitable considering the competing huge financial responsibility of  government.

The Owa Monarch particularly called on wealthy individuals and those in positions of authority to pull resources together to advance the infrastructural and socio –  economic well-being of their people through genuine and concerted programme of action.

He tasked the management of the hall and  events centre to be transparent, honest and judicious in managing the centre and advised that all monies accruing from transactions relating to the hall should be domiciled in the bank and properly accounted for when the need arises.                   

Dr Efeizomor 11 also enjoined  Deltans  to be their brothers keeper and be alert particularly during the end of year festivities. He also commended what he called ” the inspiring spiritual guidance and impeccable leadership qualities of the Bishop of Ika Diocese, Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Godfrey Ekpenisi saying that he was a leading light in Owa Kingdom.

Earlier, in an address delivered by Reverend  Samuel Eboh, the Alioye Community  traced the history of the town hall and commended the building committee for a job well done.

The people called for  the immortalization of  the fund and building committee members who had passed  for their doggedness and uncommon zeal towards the successful completion of the project. Dedicating the hall to God, Right Reverend Godfrey Ekpenisi charged the managers of the project to be forthright, sincere to the people of Owa Alero, and serve with utmost dedication and fear of God.

Special prayers were offered for the Owa Monarch and for continued peace, progress and development of Owa kingdom and Delta State in particular.

The highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic handover of the keys of the hall by the Obi of Owa to the of Bishop of Ika Diocese who in turn handed same to the chairman of the Building and management committee heralding  the commencement of the use of the Hall and Events Centre.

The Ceremony was graced by palace chiefs, elders,  women of Alioye Community and  youths as well as a cross-section of the public.
