The Super Eagles have made a significant change to their squad for the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations, announcing Terem Moffi as the replacement for the injured Victor Boniface.

The announcement was made by Super Eagles spokesman Babafemi Raji, who conveyed in a statement, “Victor Boniface is out and Terem Moffi takes his place pending approval of CAF and concurrence of his club.”

Victor Boniface incurred a groin injury during training, leading to his unfortunate exclusion from the 2023 AFCON finals. The 23-year-old is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks. Following the injury, the former Union St Gilloise striker is set to return to Germany to commence treatment.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) now awaits the approval of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officially register Terem Moffi for the AFCON. The 24-year-old striker, who was initially a surprising omission from the Super Eagles’ final squad, has an opportunity to make his mark in the tournament.

Moffi, known for his goal-scoring prowess, has already found the back of the net four times in 12 appearances for the three-time African champions. The decision to include him in the AFCON squad showcases the team’s adaptability and commitment to ensuring a competitive and formidable lineup. As Moffi steps in, there is anticipation and hope for his impactful contributions to the Super Eagles’ campaign in the prestigious tournament.
