President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sadness following the tragic explosion that unfolded on Tuesday night in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The incident claimed the lives of two individuals, left around 80 others injured, and inflicted substantial damage on buildings, vehicles, and various properties in the Bodija area of the city.

In a heartfelt statement released on Wednesday through his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu voiced deep concern over the attribution of the blast to illegal mining activities. He emphasized the urgency of identifying and holding accountable those responsible for the reprehensible and careless actions that led to such a devastating occurrence.

“The cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished,” stated the President, underscoring the need for swift action in the face of this tragedy.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the collective grief experienced by the affected community. His call for all relevant government agencies to promptly investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion reflects a commitment to unraveling the events that led to this heart-wrenching incident.

Furthermore, the President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate closely with the Oyo State Government. Their joint mission is to provide immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims, offering solace and support to those grappling with the aftermath of this calamity.

As the nation mourns the lives lost and contemplates the extensive damage inflicted, President Tinubu’s impassioned plea for accountability and the coordinated effort towards rapid relief endeavors to provide both justice for the victims and a pathway toward healing for the affected community
