Exciting developments are underway as the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery kick-starts the registration of distributors for the lifting and distribution of refined petroleum products across Nigeria. Notably, three major associations representing 75% of the market—Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), and Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN)—have already been registered.

DAPPMAN’s Executive Secretary, Olufemi Adewole, revealed that discussions with Dangote Petroleum Refinery began last year, exploring collaboration between the refinery and DAPPMAN members. This collaboration is crucial as DAPPMAN’s nationwide presence will play a pivotal role in distributing the refined products to consumers, contributing to Nigeria’s economic development.

National Vice President of IPMAN, Alhaji Hammed Adekunle Fasola, expressed confidence in the mutually beneficial relationship with Dangote Refinery. With 80% ownership of retail outlets in the country, IPMAN is poised to ensure the smooth distribution of petroleum products, emphasizing the potential for a win-win partnership.

Clement Isong, Executive Secretary/CEO of MOMAN, confirmed that their members have registered with Dangote Petroleum Refinery, highlighting the anticipation of discussions on commercial terms. He emphasized the flexibility in purchasing methods, including truck loading and vessel pickups.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed for 100% Nigerian Crude, boasts impressive capabilities, with the ability to load 2,900 trucks daily and conforming to Euro V specifications. The refinery aligns with global emission norms and employs state-of-the-art technology.

However, in response to reports claiming distributorship appointments, Dangote Industries Limited clarified that while the registration process has commenced, the appointment process is ongoing. The management emphasized that any news related to the refinery should only be considered official when communicated by the company.

This development not only signifies a transformative step in the petroleum distribution landscape but also highlights the commitment of major industry players to collaborate for the benefit of economic growth and efficiency in meeting Nigeria’s refined product requirements. As the registration process unfolds, anticipation grows for the positive impact of this collaboration on the nation’s energy sector.
